M4A3E2 ASSAULT TANK "JUMBO" RESTORATION PROJECT

This M4A3E2 Assault Tank is currently undergoing restoration at the Military Vehicle Technology Foundation, Portola Valley, California. The pictures below were taken during February, April, and May, 2006. I hope to follow this restoration in much the same way that I've been following the Panther Ausf. A restoration.

This batch of photos were taken on June 24, 2006.

Photos taken June 23, 2007. I will try and get more information on the red fire extinguisher equipment on my next visit, sometime in July.

Photos taken August 18, 2007. The red color of the fire extinguisher equipment is due to a couple of things. First off is past experiences of the mechanics at the MVTF. One of them told me that they have found the equipment in either white or red. Sometimes, the white is original color having been painted directly on the parts when first manufactured. Other times, red is the original color. Then, there have been instances where the red was overpainted with white. Finally, there have been cases where they found parts of the fire extinguishing equipment to have have been originally painted olive drab!
