1/48 IRON DIVISION M4 SHERMAN MAIN GUN MANTLET SET FOR TAMIYA KITS

kit #48010 US retail price $3.95.

More simple and effective update/accessories from Iron Division for the Tamiya M4 Shermans.

THE KIT

The kit consists of 6 resin pieces packaged in a plastic bag. No instructions are included as really none are needed.

This set includes 3 rotor shields for the combination gun mount M34 including, early rotor shield without collars, rotor shield with collars, and rotor shield with welded extension for gunner's telescope M55. Also included are a rotor shield for the combination gun mount M34A1, modified M34 gun mount for the telescope and gun shield for the .30 caliber co-axial m.g.

The rotor shield's are all nicely cast without air bubbles. The rotor shield for the M34A1 mount also has casting numbers and a foundry logo on it. The welds on the modified rotor shield are done quite cleanly and are not overstated. The only negative I have found is on the modified M34 gun mount. The side where the telescopic site protrudes should have a flange with 5 screw heads in it. This can be fixed by cutting this part off a Tamiya M34 gun mount and grafting it to the resin piece. All parts will need a slight bit of clean up to remove excess resin. .

CONCLUSION

Other than the missing flange on the modified M34 gun mount, I found this set to be another winner! The parts are nicely done and the price is right! It is another quality way to update the Tamiya Shermans and add to the spares collection. Highly recommended.
